Olympic Torch Relay

What a day! We got up at stupid o'clock and drove to Southampton to watch the first torchbearer of the day - this is him (Mike Stroud) pictured. I was so glad we had bothered to go early - the crowd was fairly small and we got to look at all the unlit torches on the bus that carries them along the route. We also saw the flame being transferred from the miner's lamp to the first torch of the day, and the policemen and women who guard the torch and torchbearers were really friendly and happy to have their photos taken while they waited for the relay to begin.
Afterwards we went home for a couple of hours sleep (we were up at 4.30) then after lunch we caught the train into Portsmouth to watch the torch on its final leg of the day at Southsea Common. There were thousands and thousands of people there, it was sunny and warm and the atmosphere was amazing. The kids loved the entertainment (especially Rizzle Kicks and Twist & Pulse) and when the cauldron was lit at the end of the day there was the most enormous cheer from the crowd.
Definitely a day to remember.
