Woodland Wonderland

Today I went to a very special area of meadow, woodland and limestone gorge with the Natural History Society. It was the plants that took centre stage today. There were a few Early Purple Orchids in the meadowland but the highlight here were the swathe of Cowslips. In the gorge there were ferns and Wild Garlic, Wood Sorrel and Toothwort, and in the woodland, Bluebells, Celandine, Wood Anemone and Violets, and somewhat out of place (we weren't sure why) a small clump of Snake's Head Fritillary
