Monomonday:heritage

This painting is part of my heritage. It was painted by my great-grandfather, my mother's grandfather. It's a Greek shepherd boy painted in oils. It was mum's wedding present, and my favourite. Each of his children received a painting on their marriage. He was a pattern maker by trade, and worked for Camel Laird in Liverpool. He returned to work during the Second World War. One of his paintings, a still life of lemons, was exhibited in the Walker Art Gallery. When Mum died, her collection passed to me. His name was Charles Purse. It looks nicer in colour!
