Rust

Our friends Tony & Rosie were supposed to be arriving here at their house today. They had planned to bring some things over and take others back so had booked the overnight ferry to Santander, intending to drive down through Spain today and arrive this evening.

Unfortunately, their ferry was cancelled at the last minute and, as they only run once a week on a Sunday, they are now flying out on Wednesday.

At least they missed a showery day for driving down. We had a leisurely day, a bit of stocking up on provisions providing an excuse for a slice of apple tart and coffee in a local cafe, then a stroll by the canal where this rusting mechanism, used (rarely by the looks of it) for controlling the sluices, caught my eye.
