Love Letters.........

An emotional Liz Macintyre gave a very moving account of the trials and tribulations of a young couple ( her parents) during World War II at tonight's Rotary meeting.

The marriage was sustained by over 300 letters from the front lines of Egypt and Italy.

Only on her mothers death bed was Liz made aware of the existence of the the letters and other artefacts ( her mother kept them hidden behind the wardrobe)

The collection has now been published Love Letters from a Desert Rat: Alex and Nan

When her father 'requisitioned' chocolate and cigarettes from a group of fleeing Italians he ate the chocolate and sent the empty wrapper home to his wife.

The chocolate wrapper is today's Blip and was posted by Alex from Egypt in 1943 to Nan in Glasgow.
