Life in Newburgh on Ythan

The maternity ward

Back in the mid 1960s I helped to put up a couple of dozen nest boxes to be used in a University study of Starling ecology. The University has long since lost its interest in Starlings and most of the boxes have now turned to dust. However, a couple remain and today I was delighted to see that they are still serving their intended purpose. It has to be said that starlings are not leading experts in the art of producing a well made nest!
