Detours

After the magnificent tour of Seattle yesterday and left to our own devices today, we decided a stroll round Lake Union might be a good way of spending a sunny morning. So we set off to follow the Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop, starting from our hotel.

A brilliant walk of around 6 miles, taking in parks, bridges and walkways. The only thing was that, although we set off early, we had forgotten that we are liable to have coffee/cold drink stops, to loiter taking in the view, watching people, boats and lots of other things. We are also likely to sit in parks, detour to see strange sculptures and the odd troll under a bridge. So, as the day got really rather hot, we were still making our way round the Lake and a morning’s stroll had turned into a day’s journey.

Anyway we made it and what a great way of seeing a city (thanks NannaK for the map).  I could have blipped any amount of great views across the lake, with the lovely blue skies and water, or Canada Geese and young (see extra), but decided on the Fremont Troll instead. Oh that all our cities and towns had that kind of sense of the bizzare – the neighbourhood of Fremont has a motto : De Libertas Quirkas (Freedom to Be Peculiar).
