Deutsche Zauberwesen

Oh we are spoiling ourselves while Mum is over here. Tonight we enjoyed eating some German mythology courtesy of Peter Schmidt and Juchheim. There was Das Koboldschiff (The Goblin Ship) symbolising the myth that goblins (or klabautermann) live on ships and perform beneficial duties for the crew such as pumping water from the hold, arranging cargo and hammering at holes until they can be repaired; at least while the captain and crew pay them respect, that is. Then there was Der Kleine Schuster (or The Little Shoemaker) who makes shoes for human shoemakers while they sleep. Then there was Die bezaubernde Meerjungfrau (or Little Mermaid), Der Daumesdick im Wald (or Pixie in the Forest) and Das Sandmannchen (The Sandman) who delivers dreams and leaves sleeping dust in your eyes. Folklore never tasted so good!
