The Hollow Crown

"Within the hollow crown
That rounds the mortal temples of a king
Keeps Death his court, and there the antic sits,
Scoffing his state and mocking at his pomp,
Allowing him a breath, a little scene,
To monarchize, be feared, and kill with looks."

King Richard, in Richard II, act 3, sc. 2

Greenzowie very kindly taped The Hollow Crown series of Shakespeare plays on her magic tellybox for us to watch. The plays are Richard II, Henry IV Part 1, Henry IV Part 2 and Henry V. We're both Shakespeare fans and we're both Tom Hiddleston fans so we were very much looking forward to watching them, and were not disappointed.

Richard II is very visually beautiful. The costumes and sets were magnificent with lots of bright colours and detail. In contrast Henry IV Part 1 is a lot darker, but the battle scene at the end is absolutely on a par with anything coming out of Holywood, or indeed HBO, these days.

We've still to watch Henry IV Part 2 and Henry V so lots more codpieces to come. Huzzah!
