in at the deep end

spent the day by a pool watching a baby wagtail cause grief to its parents! it had flown the nest, landed successfully and there it stayed - it tried flying but only managed to flutter up a foot before giving up. its parents were really stressed out trying every way to encourage it but eventually gave up and fed it on the ground.
