Almond Castle

"I fart in your general direction!"
No, sorry this isn't Doune castle, of Monty Python fame. This is Almond or Haining Castle, visible from the Union Canal and I've marked it on the map. Another entry for 'piles of things' as it is a rather old pile.


Built in the 15th century by the exotically named William de Crawfurde de Manuel, it changed hands and has been a ruin since the mid 18th century.
It also sits slap in the middle of the old Manuel brickworks, but one day it may form the centrepiece of a housing estate. For now it has the typical range of burnt out mattresses and crows to keep it company.
