Low splatometer reading

After a long journey back to Uist and back, only a few insects were splatted on the front of the car, and none that I remember on the windscreen. A sign that we're destroying the natural world.

Writer Michael McCarthy explains the loss of  “moth snowstorms” that once materialised before car headlights on summer nights as being through the hidden intensification of lowland farming. A cheery book for my birthday perhaps?
