Not forgotten

After the party is over, the jeeps departed and the 1940's costumes hung up and dancing gone, it's back down to earth with a bump.

In a little corner of this green and pleasant and peaceful land there is a memorial plaque to the crew of an Royal Canadian Air Force Bomber that crashed on the moors above Oakworth on 2nd January 1944.

The memorial reads:
In Memory of
Flt Sgt EI Glass R 2285 Pilot
Flt Sgt JE Dalling R 137946 Air Bomber
Flt Sgt J Henfrey R25563 W.Op Air Gnr
Fly Off JJ McHenry J25563 Navigator
Sgt E Savage R2129 Air Gnr
Sgt NW Crawford R190343 Air Gnr

Who lost there lives on this site January 2nd 1944.

Poignantly, there is still a photograph of Jack Henfrey pinned to the wall and most touching of all, amid the faded wreaths is a paper poppy, made by the pupils of Oldfield Primary School in a clear plastic container.
