MonoMonday: Wayside - Stracey Arms Windpump

Today we motored in our cruiser from Acle, down the River Bure and round into the River Yare at Great Yarmouth. Anyone who knows this route will be aware of the importance of timing one's passage from the Bure into the Yare carefully to ensure that one negotiates this at or near to slack water (about 2pm today) otherwise there's a risk that the tidal current will drag one further down the Yare into the open sea! Last time we came here 5 years ago the current was rather strong in spite of careful timing and we felt that the boat's engine (on full throttle) was only just able to beat the current. This time it seemed easier (phew!). So we then sailed up Breydon Water and we've moored for the night at the little village of Reedham, where I made a pig's ear of bringing the boat into the mooring position - but fortunately there was no damage to either boat ('nuff said...?!).

This journey offered an ideal opportunity to take part in Mono-Monday, the topic of which this week is "Wayside". We stopped for coffee this morning at Stracey Arms windpump by the side of the River Bure (where I made an excellent job of mooring!). For £2 you can go up inside the windmill to see (and photograph!) the (now defunct) mechanism. Hence this blip.

(The extra is a view of the windmill from outside).

Many thanks to nickimags888 for hosting MM again :-)
