Ground floor, before.

The work began almost 2 years ago, you can see here a small section of the ground floor which boasted a bathroom, lean-to kitchen, sun-room, front room and bedroom... A lot to get into one space, but surprisingly all were pretty roomy!
The kitchen was full of woodworm, so we ripped it down.... The rest of the ground floor was very dark.... Needed to think of how to inject some light into this old building.

Renovation work began and we started to clear the old carpet and furnishings. Stripping the wallpaper was fun, for every layer we removed it seemed the design went back in time 10 years, and there were plenty of layers to strip! Almost the same story with the carpets! Carpet upon carpet..... Until we came to a red brick floor, we loved the bricks so much we simply couldn't just throw them away, so, we reused them in the garden, they made a splendid pathway.

You may notice the wall behind the cooker is stone, which has been painted white....We wanted to make this a feature of the downstairs living space... After the paint was stripped and the walls re-pointed they looked beautiful. (see my next photo for an after shot!)
