The Heron will be familiar to all. But the Spoonbill may be less so, certainly in north west England.

It does seem to visit Leighton Moss regularly. It is related to the Ibis. I was amused to read in one of my bird guides that it is normally silent but is known to grunt during the breeding season. Hm.

Taking the picture was not easy and any decent photographer will say it is over processed. They were quite a distance from the hide and my bridge camera is resting on the window ledge and at its full 25x zoom. But I am not a purist and I like the result so that is what matters.
