Schwetzingen's Finest

It is (and here I'm paraphrasing) Smelly Wee Season in Germany and people hunt out the best Spargel (the German for Asparagus).

Spargel is a bit of a marmite thing - you either love it or run screaming from the floppy spears.  I wonder if there is a recipe for Asparagus & Marmite?  I suspect that's a very niche audience.

A colleague at work lives in Schwetzingen* (a heck of a commute) and has the inside info on where to get the best.Asparagus.  I know G is a Spargel fan and when he offered to bring me a sample, I happily took him up on the offer.

After the first tasting I've been assured that these really are the finest.   It seems Schwetzingen's reputation as the Best Producer is not an empty boast.

Oh and here's a helpful hint for those worried about their asparagus stems getting woody, wrap your Spargel in a slightly damp tea towel and put it in the fridge, that'll keep it fresh for a day or two.

*It's near Heidelberg - go have a look on google maps, he does that every day...
