Bluebell Wood

We were meant to be studying the geology of Roslin Glen with our U3A group but along the way were all sidetracked by the different flora, especially the bluebells  - though were all equally suspicious that these are not the native species but possibly hybrids with the Spanish.

However, our guide, Angus Miller, allowed such deviations with his usual good humour as we took in the sandstone rocks of the lower glen then walked upstream to the gunpowder mill, where the exposure (said to be the best in Midlothian) revealed lower layers of earlier mudstones, with narrow coal seam and the sandstone above - see extra.
