Migration

Recently I came across this photograph of my great uncle Dermot. I assume it was taken as he was emigrating to Canada from Ireland. I met Dermot once, many years later, when he and his wife visited Scotland to see his brother James, my grandfather. The brothers settled in different parts of the world, Dermot and his Welsh wife Mavis emigrated to Canada, James moved to Scotland and Joe emigrated to Australia. I love this photograph, the promise of a new life in a new land, and all the prospects that could bring. I've never met this side of the family but have managed to track them down via the wonders of the web. Time to reconnect the family threads. :-)
