The Funny Old World of Brass Bands

Back-blip….

I took a day off work as our band was competing at the famous (in the brass band world)  Whit Friday Brass Band Contests, held annually since 1884 around the moorland villages and towns on the western edge of the Pennines. We played at seven venues and finished in heavy rain before adjourning at around 10pm to the local hostelry then heading back to the hotel for more refreshments. A small minority saw the sunrise but I was done by 3:30am!

I captured this image of the band playing before us at Greenfield. Despite the rain, there was a very appreciative audience and a great atmosphere under the floodlights. While not all results have been published yet we've been notified of a 1st place in our section at Denshaw woohhoo.
