Snapshots of rural France

By SuzB

A sultry day...

This is Ruffec  town centre, we went in to pick up a parcel. The building on the left with the balcony used to be a hotel, hotel la 'toque blanche' and was the building where the two surviving cockleshell heroes were taken in by the resistance after walking 100 miles from Blaye through occupied France. From here they were helped through France to the Pyrenees and eventually escaped from Europe via Gibraltar. It's an incredible story of bravery and determination.
