Mayan Numbers

From the brochure and date on the Maya stela you could print at the MAYA Hidden Worlds Revealed exhibit that I translated into Spanish for the Science Museum of Minnesota. I went to see the exhibit when it opened at the Museum of Natural History in San Diego last June.

The Mayas used a series of dots and bars to represent numbers. One dot equaled one unit, while one bar equaled five units. A shell symbol signified zero.
