Angelina

My friend from NZ brought me this book - she thought my Bookclub might like it too - and I gave her a copy of our village history book to take back with her.
This story looks amazing. A girl of 16 left the tiny volcanic island of Stromboli off Sicily to travel to an even more remote island, D'Urville Island, on the edge of Cook Strait, NZ. She had been bethrothed to a man twice her age, and coped with loneliness and the incessant toil on a pioneer farm.
But her marriage was a successful one and she made an important friendship with a Maori woman...
This account was written by Angelina's grandson.
It should make interesting reading!
