late afternoon sun

The haze of an early evening enabled me to shoot straight at the sun, much (but by no means all) of which was shielded from the camera by the branches in this tree.

This result would have been impossible without using a RAW file combined with a program such as Photomatix to recover the "lost" detail in the highlights.  An experiment which worked!
