It Rocks & it Rolls

The old Hippie VW transporter bus always inspired me ever since I my childhood school bus was one too in the early 1960's in Ghana.

So why does it feature in my Dutch promotion photo journal? Two reasons:

"The original idea for the T1 van or Volkswagen Type 2 came from the Dutch Volkswagen importer Ben Pon, who drew the first sketches of the van on April 23, 1947." Ben Pon lived and worked in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. In 1947, Pon's Automobielhandel ("Pon's Car Dealership"), became the first dealer outside of Germany to sell vehicles manufactured by Volkswagen. There is still a lot of VW history out here and that's why Amersfoort is the perfect location to bring these Barndoor splitbuses together!

The other reason is this odd, but oh so über cool sphere VW Ball Bus sculpted by Lars-Erik Fisk that is currently on display in the Gelderlandplein shopping mall in Amsterdam (Holland). This young artist from Burlington Vermont created this a couple of years ago and earned him a $ 20.000 prize from a local art museum.

Anyway, it inspired me to shoot the mini sculpture in the mall and the fitting environment in the malls parking cellar that conveniently has circle elements too.

Most heard remark to this photo is: It's impossible not to wonder if this thing will roll - or drive?

Have a great weekend

Thanks for visiting my weekly journal post and cu next saturday!
