Meet 'Nicky' Mouse...

...We call him Nicky because he 'nicks' the bird seed from our ground feeder.  He visits at dusk every evening, but today we were lucky, he decided to make a daytime visit.  To get an idea of just how small wood mice are, the fat ball on his left is a normal sized one.
I've also included another shot of him in extras.  He's very difficult to photograph as he is very quick. We think he is living under our summerhouse.

Size: 81-103mm; tail 71-95mm

Weight: 13-27g

Few adults survive from one summer to the next.

Found throughout the British Isles, even on the smaller islands, the wood mouse is our most common and widespread wild rodent. It is an inhabitant mainly of woodland and fields but is highly adaptable and is found in most habitats if not too wet. It is rarely recorded on higher exposed ground with little cover. Wood mice are essentially nocturnal but some individuals may venture out in daylight.
