That distant look

They were trying to replicate the faraway, non-smiling expression of the girls in the Gainsborough, which had proved to be a favourite. One got it exactly, one almost got it, and one couldn’t stop laughing. They quite liked the dresses, but didn’t think the girls would have done much climbing in them.

A visit to the National Gallery was made more exciting by getting hold of a chart and pencils and being asked to record all the animals they could see in the paintings – there are an awful lot!

Quite a day, especially when the train from Sevenoaks, which always goes to Charring Cross, was only going to Victoria today. Then the bus stop we arrived at to get a bus to Trafalgar Square had been re-located and there was no indication as to where it had been moved. Two buses later and we arrived – in time for lunch!

We’re exhausted!
