Wild Wednesday ....

Common Grackle.  (Really! That's this birds name!)

This was shot right before he took off!

Speaking of taking off ....

We have had a very exciting afternoon and evening.   We had read in the paper that a historic event was about to take place right here in the Lehigh Valley!  The experimental plane Solar Impulse 2 was going to be flying from Dayton, Ohio to our airport here in Allentown today.  It is a 17 hour flight and was due into LVIA at 9:00 pm this evening.

I was watching and listening to the website all afternoon to see if I could get a better feel for the exact time of arrival.  The pilot, Bertrand Piccard, said that even if he got to the Lehigh Valley earlier than 9:00 pm, he wouldn't be able to land until then because of the wind.  He made good time after he left Dayton and as he got closer to the Allentown airport he had go into a holding pattern for about 3 hours!  He also was in a holding pattern once he arrived at our airport.

After supper we grabbed our cameras and drove to the airport to watch him come in .... see extra!   And while waiting we saw the most amazing sunset.  This groundbreaking event was such an exciting thing to be a part of .... something we will remember for a long time to come.
