Green Lake

An unprecedented early start from Melbourne got us to Green Lake (just outside Horsham) by mid-morning.  We noticed on the way over that the level was really low, and there seemed to be a large number of birds, but didn’t have the time to explore.

So on the way back, we grabbed the camera gear hoping to get some good images.  However, we were mortified to realise that we’d left our long lenses at home, so the chances of getting any really good shots were remote.

I just settled for this charming scene – Grampian Mountains in the background, and hundreds of birds in the middle.  There were pelicans and coots for sure, and at least a half a dozen other varieties that we couldn’t name. A super bird bonanza.

In the extra photo you see some of the signs at the South Australian - Victorian state border, roughly 3 hours drive from Adelaide.
