Tea Break

We have been plying our builders, Steve, John and Chris with lots of tea and chocolate biscuits today as they get to grips with our kitchen refit.  We thought just replacing doors, drawer fronts and worktops (plus a couple of complete new units and a breakfast bar,) would be cheaper, easier and more environmentally friendly than ripping out the entire kitchen and starting again.  Well, it is cheaper (especially as we are keeping the hob and oven) but certainly not easier.  Our brilliant builders are having to make all sorts of adjustments as the new cupboard doors and worktops are different sizes nowadays, so they don't fit the cupboard carcasses exactly.  Different dimensions were used back in the 1990s when the kitchen was originally fitted, everything is smaller now...a case of built in obsolescence I think.
