Many colourful flowers lined the footpath in Roslin Glen with the air full of the sounds of bees and birds so it was difficult to imagine the noise and smell that there would have been when the Gunpowder Mill there was in operation for over 150 years. With views of the Pentland Hills beyond the deep wooded North Esk River gorge, it was pleasant to walk up the steps from the ruined water wheel (barely visible in the extra) into the sunshine.
