Knossos

A visit to Crete just wouldn't be the same without a trip to Knossos - quite spectacular once the notion of looking past the concrete 'restoration' sections (see extra) has settled in.  For a sunny Sunday I was surprised at how little difficulty we had in getting photographs without other tourists blocking the view.

Worth reading up on Arthur Evans - the  archaeologist leading the excavation and reconstruction at the turn of the 19th/20th centuries. Quite a character and a product of his background and era ... a mix of India Jones & Richard Hannay?
