Little gem

This beautiful little alpine fern, Polystichum prescottianum, is a native of the Himalayas and round about and is rare in cultivation, it seems. Unusually for a polystichum it's deciduous, and as a high altitude fern should be hardy.

I've grown it and lost it before, so maybe it's suceptible to winter wet. A kind friend gave me this one, so I'm growing it in a clay pot this time. It's hard to find much information about it.

I was given another little gem at Gardening Scotland - Polystichum mohroides. I'd never heard of it before, but it appears to be a South American native.

So many new plants to learn about!

And as requested by snapper, I've added an extra of Susie - 'Mistress of all she surveys'!
