Bakewell Town Mural

If you look up towards the clock tower on the coop, you'll spot this lovely mural representing Bakewell as it was (using artistic license) before the development of the coop and Granby road.
I don't remember it then but most of the people I talk to say it was brilliant and there's a lot of nostalgia for the old livestock market.
In the mural you can see Skidmores, which I do remember, the carnival, wheelbarrow race and a lovely homage to the elephant that went a bit mad and was shot.
You can still see one of its feet in the Old House Museum, it's been turned into an umbrella stand!
