DANGER - Road Widening!

More widening of the drive area than road but I try to do something stupid with the titles.
We have enough room for 5 cars altogether, including the gravel underneath the silver birch at the top of the photo. 4 cars on the tarmac are ok but if I want to get the bike out I need a good gap between them. This means that my car is usually parked on the edge of the tarmac and, especially when it's wet, it means people have to walk on the grass and the mud then comes into the house.

Yesterday I dug the turf up (see extra photo) and also dug down a bit more to make sure we don't get flooding like we do on the large gravel area. Marlane was a great help with a lawn edger cutting sections so it was easier for me with the spade. Well, it was her idea in the first place.
Second extra you can see the beginning of filling in after laying weed suppressant plastic sheeting. We had 1/2 ton of washed Cotswold stone gravel delivered and it almost was enough. Got another 1/2 ton coming tomorrow.

The main blip photo shows the finished job (apart from putting in a bit more gravel tomorrow) and you can see we also moved 3 slabs to make it more symmetrical and easier to step across rather than actually walking on the gravel.

It's a great job, thanks to Marlane for thinking of it, although I never look forward to having to implement her big ideas it's all down to her that people visit and tell us what a lovely home and garden we have. It's all worth it in the end.
