Ely Cathedral

This morning we visited the Museum of Computing History.  This was a more fun version of The National Museum of Computing at Bletchley, with an emphasis on contemporary computers rather than historic ones.  There were lots of game consoles, and many machines that took their place in history following the Spectrum and BBC Micro era in the 1980s.  Most of them were hands on - you could play Sonic The Hedgehog on a Sega console, and we had a good game of Pong.

We spent more time here than we expected but eventually made our way into Ely for a look around the cathedral.  We booked onto a tour up the West Tower, and then went for some lunch.  After a short walk around inside, we went up the tower with our guide.  It was a small group of just four, so we had time to stop on the way up the spiral staircase and look at the various passageways that branched off.  At the top we had spectacular views over the (very flat!) countryside.

After carefully descending the steps we spent some time in the stained glass museum and then had afternoon tea and cake.  (The tea was included in our admission price, but we'd have bought one anyway!)  We then had another look around and listened to a little of the evensong service before walking into Ely for dinner.

After dinner we took advantage of the sunset light to take photos of the outside of the building, and walked all the way around it.

The blip is of the ceiling of the Lady Chapel at the cathedral.
