Hawangen

I can't remember the last time I wore a "proper" business shirt & tie. I do remember in my last job between 2003 and 2010 perhaps once a year wearing a suit 6 tie but even then it was more a joke than for any business reason. Our boss had a tie allergy but he did have to dress up more often for conferences and the occasional visitor. The world of Electron Microscopy is largely inhabited by researchers, professors etc who don't seem to value dress sense all that highly.

I, however, know there are times when a suit & tie can help. Turn up at an airlines check-in and the flight is overbooked wearing jeans, chances are you will be left behind. Come dressed in suit and tie and the chance of being upgraded to business class is very high. makes an overnight transatlantic flight much more pleasant!

Today tie was worn to simply make the first meeting partner think they were dealing with someone who had two marbles between the ears. remarkable how looks can fool.

On the way home stopped off at the organic shop for my kilo of British made organic Cheddar. Then on way home passed through Hawangen and the smallish dairy where I used to buy their so-called "Chester" or if you ask if they have Cheddar answer is yes and you get the Chester. They assure me Chester is the correct name for Cheddar. I long gave up trying to explain.

Realised I hadn't Bliped so quickly took a shot of the villages new maypole in front of the town hall (population 1200) and to the right, the dairy with a couple of stainless steel tanks simply on the side, alongside the pavement. There is no sign that there is self-service. The main entrance is actually around the corner where the tankers offload/load and "factory shop" are located  The dairy is a cooperative with two locations in the area -  about 1200 farmers, 140 employees and working around 350 million litres (kilos) of milk a year. This year they have started supplying cheese to McDonalds "Cheese" suppliers, the people who make the processed slices on your burger. Seemingly McD now has a "Regional Burger" and advertise with cheese from this dairy. In this link there is a further link to a McD YouTube video which includes some footage of the dairy.
