Dinner With Executives

Backblip.

Seriously, if you live in Metro Detroit and have never heard of After5 Detroit, you're really missing out on something fun. Ms. Kerry Doman put on a heck of a schedule of fun stuff throughout the summer. After5 ended today with a dinner with Detroit executives at Eastern Market.

Now, the sheds in Eastern Market are huge. Every Saturday at sunrise, local farmers peddle their wares to the market and sell like in the olden days. (Ok, that was an oversimplification, but nonetheless.) It was really hot in there. The keynote speaker was Mr. Bill Emerson from Quicken Loans. He spoke a lot about making a comeback from this.

Too many people have this twisted perception of Detroit as a broken-down, crime-ridden city. While crime, poverty, and a budget squeeze do exist, so do flourishing businesses, energetic citizens, and mouth-watering food (like Slow's, who catered today).

I really grew to like Detroit this summer. I don't want to be so quick to bolt to New York or Boston or Chicago, although I hope to give those places a try in the next few summers. Detroit is coming back. Plus, the Lions will win the Super Bowl by 2018.

Peace.
