Summer gueze

Summer has been here all week and last night I soaked up the pleasant early evening sun while enjoying a beer with an American friend at the great fair trade/organic co-operative bar Altérez-Vous in Louvain-la-Neuve.

My friend had an organic Cantillon Lambic Gueze, which is about as traditional a beer as you can get from Brussels. The ingredients are : raw wheat 35%, malted barley 65% and dried hops (three years old) : 5 g per liter of beer. It makes for a sour beer which is the basis for all the fruit beers Belgian enjoying drinking in the summer. The Van Roy-Cantillon family still own and run the brewery founded in 1900.

Santé !
