Can you tell what it is yet?

This type of picture was a staple in comics and popular newspapers when I was a kid: an everyday object seen close up, then you had to guess what it was. They were usually of match heads or pencil sharpeners. They must have been taken with state-of-the-art cameras at the time, but today even the cheapest digital camera can do a better job. That's progress!
