As a small lovechild, I remember the many Monarch butterflies that I admired, captured, and watched form from a plain chrysalis attached to a stick in a well-vented jar.

The other day, I noticed a different butterfly hovering in our yard, and wondered if it was a Yellow Swallowtail.

To my surprise, it was!

Today, this beauty visited my Mother's Day plant for several minutes, and didn't seem to care that I got up close to photograph it feasting on nectar.
