Car Ferry

The lake is about 45 kms long, so it is a long way round by car, especially at the southern end as the two branches of the lake are quite far apart. The car ferries operate a frequent service between the two sides of the lake in the central area of the lake. Although they look quite small they are big enough to take small trucks and tourist coaches.

In the morning we stopped at the local bar for a late breakfast and a couple of fruit tarts. I had an apple pastry and a strawberry tart. Very nice and fresh. The pastry chef lives near us, and we share the same entrance although she lives in a building slightly separated from our apartment. She is up very very early in the morning so the pastries etc. are ready for when the bar opens.

The day was scorchingly hot and sunny. Officially 28 degrees, but in the sun I am sure it felt more. We headed over to Varenna. There was a group of at least 50 or so English wedding guests on the boat. Varenna has a pretty town square and is popular for weddings.

By the time we were thinking about lunch we found the wedding party had taken over all the bars and restaurants in the square. Not good news for the restaurants as they were only having a pre wedding drink and no food.

We loitered outside one of the restaurants until a table came free. After lunch a stroll and I purchased a small ornament for the apartment. Returning to to Lenno we stopped at a bar next to the lake before heading back to the apartment.
