Anatole's blips

Hoffelljökull

After a morning in the saddle, we drove up Hoffell for a walk up to another valley glacier from Vatnajökull. This one has retreated over the last 10 years leaving a large iceberg strewn lake. Interestingly, the rivers are all stained orangey yellow and the lake is milk-chocolate brown. It didn't just look like the product of iron-staining, but it might be one of the coloured algaes that thrive in geothermal waters. The extra shows a close-up down onto some of the ash-striped bergs.
