THE GENIUS OFJACO PASTORIOUS...
...lives on.
After the first time I saw Jaco Pastorious in the Ancienne Belgique I was obliged to de-fret a load of Fender Jazz basses. A few months later I had to re-fret them when the aspiring Jaco fans discovered they just couldn't hack it - ho hum!
This Jazz bass belongs to Michel Hatzi who was a student of Jaco's in the early '80's.
The last time Jaco was to play in Brussels no-one saw him play! He put Michel on stage & sat in the wings with an enormous smile on his face while Michel played in his stead!
What goes around comes around - Michel wants this bass re-fretted! It's just that he's not satisfied with the response...
OK - let's open the worm-can - had to take off the plastic binding on the side of the neck because the wood which replaced the original frets is too wide - so I need to re-saw the slots. Also he wants to replace the rosewood inserts with which the cowboy replaced the original plastic with actual mother of pearl!
Michel's wanting instant satisfaction - he has a solo concert coming up next week...
Dream on baby!
