Woad in the making

Visited Sue Horne in her studio and workshop this afternoon on the Park of Keir estate where she is busy running demos all week in various craft making techniques  from paper-making to spinning and weaving.

The one that fascinated me was the use of woad, an ancient plant going back to Neolithic times to create the indigo dye. Sue spins her own wool and uses woad amongst the natural dyes she uses.
Visitors also get the opportunity to try these ancient craft skills themselves- all part of Artbeat-Forth Valley Open Studios.

Sue tells me that her famous teabag angel - will be going to Gloucester cathedral for Christmas.
