Mr Laurel and Mr Hardy

Mr Laurel - Can you give me a room and a bath?

Hotel Receptionist - I can give you a room but you'll have to bath yourself.

Bonnie Scotland (1935)

I dont think there can be many films that have made me laugh half as much as the great duo's.
My favourite is "Way out west" where Mr Laurel ommits the terrfic line "a lot of weather we've been having".
Stan Laurel was the great brains behind the duo and although the studio employed writers for them, often up to 95% of the jokes came from Stan.
His genius was to keep the humour just within the bounds of reality, his own personal technique involved sawing the heals of his shoes to give a flat footed walk, and staring at Ollie mid face to give a vacant look.
He also grew his hair long at the top (they call it a fright wig) so he could do the head scratching routine and make his hair stand on end.
They split from Hal Roach studios in 1940 and a lot of fans feel they never made a great film after that.
