Young Writer of the Year

She said she was just eleven years old. Perhaps we need to check her birth certificate. She looks at least double that age to me!

Our little writing group has organised a competition for a young writer and young poet of the year in the local community. A fellow blipper by the name of Realgrumpytyke has put a lot of effort into this and I'd like to thank him personally here for all his hard work. Today was judging day, and what a privilege that turned out to be. Most of the entries were from the younger age groups and brilliant they were, especially the poems. The sense of fun and incredible creativity was a joy to witness. It was suggested that we didn't get many entries from older children because of the pressure of exams. That says it all really.

Kelly here brought along this hollow book as a prize she'd made for the winning young writer. Kelly is a very talented illustrator as well as writer, and her creative skill is clearly demonstrated here. It's such a beautiful object. Having read the entries today, both the winners - whoever they turn out to be - will well deserve such a wonderful prize, and will hopefully be inspired to carry on writing. We have perpetual trophies too and perhaps in twenty years time there will be a famous name inscribed on one of them. Who knows?
