Hey, DJ!

Day 2 of the Africa Oyé festival saw an unwelcome change in the weather. After yesterday's glorious sunshine, today brought hours of heavy rain...

The bands played on and a hardcore of festival-goers kept on dancing but it was a real shame that the elements didn't play fair!

The wet weather meant that my camera stayed in my bag for much of the day but I did manage to take this portrait of London-based, South African DJ and producer, Esa Williams.

Here's some music that was commissioned from Esa and his collaborator Auntie Flo for Mandela Day 2014 www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CUfaRyvbaE

Other performers I saw today were the marvellous Sona Jobarteh, the first woman kora virtuoso to come from a family of Gambian griots; Jamaican reggae star, Randy Valentine; Senegal's Mamadou and the Super Libidor Band; Sherii Ven Dyer from the UK via Jamaica, and Bilan from Cape Verde.
