Fjallsarlon glacier lagoon

Here's another view of the Vatnajökull icecap, but from the other direction, looking up from the coast. In front is one of the many valley glaciers that cascade down from it between the ridges (see extra), this one terminating in a glacial lagoon. All the glacial lagoons have got a lot bigger in the 15 years since we were last here as the glaciers have all retreated by as much as a kilometre inland. They say that if the Vatnajökull ice cap was to melt, it would never reform in the current climate.

Plus another extra of a couple of Puffins - the national bird!
