Dark sky

We had nice sunshine all afternoon but when we were driving home a huge black cloud appeared..... scary!!!!

A rather strange day.  I should have been in Edinburgh with my Third Wednesday girls...... but I slept in.   Difficult when your plans are all wrong.... I didn't know what to do.

I went down the centre for a few things with the HG.  After lunch he suggested that we go on a Covenanters hunt.  To explain, a few weeks ago we were in Strathaven at a concert and play given by the Covenanters Association.  It was really good and we have always been interested in the covenanting movement, so thought we would go and visit some of the covenanting sites.

So off we went to Lesmahagow and in the old kirkyard we started to look for the grave of David Steel, who was martyred in 1688.  We couldn't find it until the HG talked to a gentleman who was wandering around looking for another grave (for someone in Canada who wanted to trace an ancestor, it appears).  Anyhow, this gentleman was the very gentleman who had written the play we had seen, and he was able to show us David Steel's grave and give us some more information.

From there we went to Skellyhill Farm, which was the farm that David Steel tenanted.  He was killed there by the King's Dragoons, and years later another tenant of the farm erected a monument to him.  It is now looked after by the Covenanters Society.

From there we went to Drumclog to see the monument to the Battle of Drumclog which was fought in 1679. Took photos but liked this one on the way home of the scary sky.

Hope you all had a good day.
